Plant Starting

Whether you are a home gardener getting an early start on tomatoes and peppers, or a large scale commercial grower of starts, Z-Lum light bars are the best choice for supplemental light, or the only light.

Whether growing totally indoors or in a greenhouse, LEDs will maximize plant growth per energy dollar.

Individual bars can be suspended above flats and raised as plants grow. Slim bars can be mounted on the underside of shelf racks, taking little vertical space.

Short wavelength blue light “pre-hardens” seedlings against UV light from the sun, reducing sunburn of leaves when plants are moved outdoors.

Two 3-foot light bars are just right for four standard 21×10 inch flats side-by-side.

Plant Starting Z-Lum vs Fluorescents

Tomato seedlings 4 weeks after planting, same soil and temperature, totally indoors, no natural light. Lights were on 18 hours per day. Two groups of eight plants were started in 1 quart containers. Note the much larger size, robust, stocky form and dark leaf color of the plant grown under Z-Lum Cool Pink lights. The fluorescent-lit plant remained at the cotyledon stage for over two weeks. The Z-Lum plant was effectively two weeks more developed!
